HLTH 482 W Grant Writing Project
For my HLTH 482 W class, this fall semester, together with my group, we are doing a research project focused on mental health awareness in college students, specifically Minnesota State University students and Blue Earth County college students. We are trying to get funded by the American College Health Foundation for the Stephan D.Weiss Student Mental Health Award, which offers $5000 to promote and improve the quality of mental health support for college students.
This project is in line with all the rising rates of problems that happen among college students. In the process of synthesizing and bringing new ideas, we realized we needed to come up with refined research questions and a willingness to adapt as the research evolves. My role in this research project is to identify key personnel/partnerships who will be involved in the project and to describe evaluation procedures that will be used to measure the outcomes/impact of this proposed project.
To ensure the success of this initiative, I plan on putting together a committed team of essential professionals and forging strategic alliances. A Project Director is going to be in charge of the overall project coordination, implementation, and assessment. A supervisor is going to be in charge of day-to-day operations and will make sure that project deadlines are met. Additionally, we will have qualified mental health specialists who will offer students-only treatments. For this research, I plan on establishing collaborations with University Academic Advising, Student Health Services, and the Counselling Centre to be able to promote a multidisciplinary strategy for supporting students’ mental health.
Being able to succeed in this research project, will help me in my future career as a Health Educator Specialist and Occupational Therapist. During this time I will be able to gain a deeper understanding of mental health issues, and the impact they have on people’s lives. I will be able to use these skills to ensure I give better support and educate individuals dealing with mental health challenges.
